Gaypril is a time to celebrate, honor, and bring visibility to folks in the QT community. These events allow us to showcase the diversity, skills, and stories of the community, as well as pay tribute to our QT elders and the origin stories of the community.
Planning these events is a full year worth of labor for the staff. We want the KU community to know they are welcome to attend regardless of how they identity. These events are not just for the QT community, but for everyone. Being able to locate yourself within Queer and Trans culture is a way straight and cisgender folks can work to make KU a safer community for everyone. When you can see your own humanity, joy, pain, and self in QT related experiences, it help you see other’s. In a world that was structured to erase QT people, being seen is crucial. Come to the events and see us in all our Gaypril glory.
